Glen Barkman Piano TunerHi. My name is Glen Barkman and I am a piano tuner and technician on beautiful Vancouver Island. I service pianos regularly in Victoria, Mill Bay, Duncan, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, Parksville, Qualicum and Comox Valley. I am also the author of this website, Piano Price Point, which is one of the most comprehensive online consumer guides for piano buying in the world.
My website has over 75,000 unique visitors each month and has connected me with piano makers from around the world. I’ve researched just about every aspect of piano manufacturing by visiting piano factories in Europe and China. This has given me greater insight into my own skills as a technician. When you see pianos being built from the ground up, it not only gives you greater appreciation for the massive undertaking to build a quality piano but also, an appreciation for great design and craftsmanship and how to fix things when they go wrong.
Piano TuningI completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Music as well as my Performance Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (A.R.C.T) . Knowing how to play proficiently is a great asset when you approach the piano technically. Not only do you have a greater understanding of touch and tone but also context. I’m a bit of a piano geek when it comes to technical data. I pour over statistics of pianos and piano designs. It’s what I find fascinating.
Over the last 25 years, I’ve worked as a piano teacher, piano salesperson, piano player in several bands and finally ended up working in my area of passion, piano tuning and technical work. I tune all sorts of pianos ~ new and old, large and small, expensive and free. I tune for recording studios, various music schools, several churches and countless homes for people like yourself, in need of servicing. I find it incredibly satisfying having the challenge of getting a piano back into shape musically. If you’re looking for someone to tune up your piano, please feel free to give me a call. It’s what I enjoy doing. And don’t be shy about how long since it’s been maintained. I see that all the time. In fact, I secretly like tuning pianos that are massively out of tune because the contrast is so great!
Piano tuning is $160.71 + taxes = $180. If you have some keys that don’t work properly they are often simple fixes and cost $10-20 per key. Larger issues are quoted on an individual basis and I’ll explain the work that needs to be done and all your options before you make a decision.
You can either contact me through the CONTACT PAGE or call me directly at 250-380-2725.

Regards

Glen Barkman
